I'm sure many of you will remember that I was able to attend the big red and white quilt exhibit in New York City spring of 2011. The quilts were exciting, seeing my quilt friends was exciting, my first time in the big apple was exciting and it was also my first big trip with my daughter. That was exciting and the entire trip was completely memorable.

The International Quilt Museum’s Quilt of the Month comes from the upcoming exhibition, Joanna S Rose Collection of Red and White Quilts, on view from April 1st to September 11th in the West Gallery. Mrs. Rose’s collection of Red and White quilts became a memorable part of quilt history when her husband partnered with The American Folk Art Museum to display over 600 of her red ... |
Two fabrics, 9P blocks, and lots of space to show off some quilting.
My favourite for today is the one above.
I like the blank spaces in all of these … but then I always like space to feature quilting motifs.

A new project using 9 patch blocks, with room for two different red fabrics, plus white. It took a couple of false starts before I was happy with the combination of fabrics, but like the choice in the first couple of designs I am sharing.
As soon as I had these two designs to share I tried some other colours … I will save them for the next couple of days!

The first design today features four examples of how sometimes putting four blocks together creates a whole new block. I didn’t know it would happen, and it only worked because the four blocks together are separated by background fabric.
I wonder if there are other blocks which would work together in the same way?
I love the second design too.

A couple more of my Red and white collection of 9patch quilt designs.
In this project file I have used 10 blocks, with an alternative colouring used for two of them, and used each and every block with all of the others. Each combination is used twice, in both possible combinations.
As there are 131 designs in the project file, somewhere I have missed one … one day I might find the patience to work out which combination I missed, though I deliberately missed using the same block in both of the alternative placings, which would have made 144 in total ...

Two different 9 patch blocks, with some quilting motifs based on different 9 patch blocks.
This is part of a rather large series of project files using 9P blocks and just 2 colours which I have ignored for a couple of years … or more!
My favourite of these two is the first one, by far!
There are quite a few files with the same 9P/red and white theme, so I think I will follow that theme for this week.

The second design reminds me of a game board, but I have no idea what the rules might be!

I have been very bad about blogging. I was surprised to see it has been almost 3 months. Time is slipping away.
I went to our local Bernina dealer, Hinkletown Sewing to get a new foot for my machine. I saw this bag behind the counter and asked if I could have one. How cool is this!? I love how the handle for the bag is the handle for the machine.
I did a swap this spring with During Quiet Time with her book, Petals and Stems. The idea was to make a top and bottom but don't sew ...

Interesting, and all those blocks are made with simple, straight seams.
Another interesting design, and though I am not a fan of red and white even if they are the local sporting colours, I really like it! Room for quilting os a bonus.
